Why Dzogchen Cycles?
Dzogchen is the crowning jewel of the Nyingma (ancient) Tibetan Buddhist traditions. Its radiance illuminates the entire path from beginning to end. Inspired and guided by Ad.zom Rinpoche, widely praised as perhaps the greatest Dzogchen master in Tibet today, we have created a program that offers students fundamental teachings and practices. We are particularly blessed to provide access to treasure texts (gter ma) recently revealed by Ad.zom Rinpoche. The program has been praised for enhancing personal experiences of wisdom and compassion, and as a portal to direct realization of our true nature.
Dawn Mountain is blessed to hold lineage teachings from Longchen Rabjam, Jigme Lingpa, and their spiritual heirs, including Ad.zom Paylo Rinpoche and the late Khetsun Sangpo Rinpoche, our teacher for several decades. Especially destined for our era and conditions, Dzogchen teachings are a further blossoming of the ancient Dzogchen Nyingthig traditions, which we practice in light of wisdom writings by Longchenpa and Jigme Lingpa.
Dzogchen Cycles Administration
There are two ways in which you can participate in our Dzogchen Cycles program. The Full Cycles program includes three retreats, in-between teachings and a peer mentor. Alternatively, you may participate on an a la carte basis, selecting individual retreats (which may range from $800-$600), with no option for in-between support. Either way, we ask that you submit an application here.

Spring Retreat May 3-10, 2019 Yeshe Tsogyal Foundational and Accomplishment Retreat
We are excited to begin Dzogchen Cycle’s third year with an in-depth exploration of Yeshe Tsogya on the campus of Rice University in Houston, TX. This will be the very first time we practice the accomplishment phase of the Yeshe Tsogyal teaching.
Ad.zom Rinpoche, one of the most renowned Dzogchen masters in Tibet today, received a direct vision of Yeshe Tsogyal while visiting her sacred soul-lake north of Yaru Drak. This unique practice is the fruition of that encounter, first privately revealed at Tārā Mandala in 2007 and after that held closely until 2018.
The Yeshe Tsogyal practice is part of Rinpoche’s own Treasure cycle, the Luminous Heart Essence (‘Od gsal snying thig). With Rinpoche’s blessings, this rich yet simple practice is the focus of Dzogchen Cycles’ annual weeklong retreat this year.
Fall September 13-15, 2019 Jigme Lingpa’s Severance (Chӧ): Deep Wisdom
The word Chӧ means to cut or sever. In this vital and uniquely Tibetan practice, we seek direct encounters with wisdom. In particular, we cut through our worst fears and obstructions and dissolve them into wisdom. We sing, we drum, we raise wisdom energy in ourselves and each other. Ad.zom Rinpoche has given us his framework for further empowering Jigme Lingpa’s words, and he emphasized the power of Chӧ to deepen our realization at this time in Dzogchen Cycles.
Spring Losar Retreat- Guru Yoga February 28th, 2020- March 1, 2020
Guru Yoga is the royal road to coming into attunement with one’s natural realization. Jigme Lingpa, who had his transformative visionary encounter with Guru Rinpoche, is the root source of Guru Yoga teachings for the Heart Essence, Vast Expanse (Longchen Nyingthig).
This Guru Yoga, the focus of our retreat, is Jigme Lingpa’s own text, which crowns the Foundational Practice Ngondro, revealed by him. In this teaching, he takes the opportunity to refresh our appreciation of lineage, details the steps of initiation relevant to the entire path, and augurs the sacred and unique Dzogchen paths for which these practices provide the foundation.
This retreat is open to everyone. At the same time, whatever other practices you might already have in connection with Guru Rinpoche, Jigme Lingpa’s work can enrich them, including those of you already familiar with Ad.zom Rinpoche’s Becoming Guru Rinpoche practice taught last year.
